The Community Of Kalambya

Kalambya is located in the Kitui County in the lower East Kenya division. It is a semi-arid area with very unreliable rainfall. The people of this region are from the Kamba tribe who practice subsistence farming and also keep a few livestock. The soil is actually fertile, if they had water, they could support and produce enough food for the community. But without the water it has been a very difficult existence. It has a population of 4,000 people and roughly 28,000 livestock (cows, goats, sheep and donkeys). There are 2 public schools with a total of 850 students. The people here spend a lot of time, effort and money in accessing water from outside their community area. This water well will change their lives.
